Here are some packing tips for those local moves in Chicago and long distance moves from Chicago!
- Keep the following supplies handy: boxes, marking pen, bubble wrap, newsprint, tape, scissors or box cutter, a tape measure
- Use specialty boxes (often called "dish packs") for dishes, glass ware, fragiles and breakables. These double corrugated boxes protect breakables the best. With bubble wrap and newsprint, your goods will stay nicely protected.
- Use adjustable "mirror cartons" for glass, artwork and mirrors. Also package in bubble wrap.
- Pack plasma TV in its original box.
- Try to pack all of your audio/video equipment in their original boxes. If not available, use movers "medium boxes" with bubble wrap.
- Books, files, and smaller, heavier items go in "book boxes" which are 1.5 cubic feet cartons.
- Medium weight items (toasters, board games, toys, light non-fragile table and book shelf displays) are packed in medium, 3.0 cubic feet cartons.
- Large, light items (stuffed animals, towels, bedding) should be packed in large, 4.5 cubic feet cartons.
- Do not exceed 40 pounds per box.
- Label each box and indicate which room it should go in. Mark "FRAGILE" and "THIS SIDE UP" as necessary.
- Carry your medicines, important papers/documents, jewelry, and valuables with you.
